Carrots (A Victorian orphan with ginger hair!)
“CARROTS – the musical” – Dr Barnardo’s Dilemma
Written and composed by Peter Canwell
Directed and Produced by George Critchley for PMA Productions Ltd
This is a fantastic opportunity for a boy or girl to play the part of Carrots in this professional musical “Carrots” – Dr Barnardo’s Dilemma produced by PMA Productions at The Georgian Theatre Royal in Richmond, North Yorkshire from 13th -16th August, 2008.
“Carrots” is based on the true story of the life and death of the boy John Somers, an 11 year old ginger haired Victorian orphan found living in the streets of the East End of London by Dr Thomas Barnardo “living” – surviving, with his orphan friends in 1866, which inspired Barnardo to put up the famous sign ‘no destitute child ever refused admission’.
Dr Barnardo, born in Dublin in 1845, originally wanted to be a missionary in China, set up his first Barnardo’s home after seeing the suffering and human misery after outbreaks of cholera in the East End of London.
George Critchley for PMA Productions are holding auditions to search for boys and girls to find Carrots and his orphan friends to star in this new production – a revival of the musical last produced professionally at Billingham Forum in 1979.
